Web giant Google returns to South Lakeland

Businesses are being given the chance to get expert advice on how to promote themselves online at a special event in South Lakeland.

Google is teaming up with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) to hold a free business event in Kendal on July 13, 2016, at the Brewery Arts Centre. This follows a popular Google event held previously in South Lakeland in 2013.

It will form part of Google’s Digital Garage programme, a series of events during which the web giant’s experts will travel the country giving local businesses tips on how to make the most of their web presence.

The event will include advice on how to make your website stand out on computers and mobile devices by developing engaging content and using web analytics effectively.

It will also be a chance to learn more about digital marketing and how to use online marketing tools to reach prospective customers.

Matt Williams, project officer for the council’s economic development team, said: “It is essential that businesses are aware of how to make the most of promoting themselves online and know how to use their web presence to reach new customers.

“We are dedicated to doing everything we can to help businesses in South Lakeland prosper and encourage economic growth and employment.

“That’s why we are really excited to be working with Google to bring this event to the area.”

In the last year the council has been involved in organising regular networking and advice events for businesses in South Lakeland through its Invest in South Lakeland programme.

These events have already been attended by more than 750 people and the Google event is expected to attract a further 200 businesspeople.  

Matt Williams said: “These events help us engage with businesses in South Lakeland and provide a forum for them to discuss issues that affect them. They also provide an ideal opportunity to network with other businesses and make new contacts.  

“Previous events have filled up very quickly so I would urge people to book their place as soon as they can to avoid being disappointed.”

The event will be held at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal. It is free to any business in South Lakeland but limited to two attendees per company. Those interested are encouraged to register online at www.southlakeland.gov.uk/b2b

Doors will open from 9.45am for networking, refreshments and registration and the event will start at 10am.

Invest in South Lakeland is an economic growth programme led by South Lakeland District Council aimed at attracting new investment, encouraging business start-up and growth and promoting the area as a quality location for business.


The programme includes business support, specialist business events, a business facing website (www.investinsouthlakeland.co.uk), online business directory and detailed business profiling for employers across the district.
