There’s help at hand this month for anyone wanting to save money on their gas and electricity bills.

The charity Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) is running four free drop-in events in towns and villages across South Lakeland over the next few months, thanks to funding from us.

Householders will be able to get one-to-one advice on ways to use less energy at home, and pay less for it.

CAfS’, Nancy Evans, who’s organising the events, commented: “Everyone is welcome to drop in and get some practical tips and support.

“We can answer people’s questions about cutting out draughts around doors, windows and from chimneys.

“We’ll also be passing on other energy-saving tips, such as using LED bulbs, all of which can really reduce the amount of energy people use for heating and lighting.”

The charity is also able to help people pay less for their gas and electricity.

Nancy said: “If people bring in their energy bills we can do a check there and then to see whether they could save money by moving to a different supplier, or even just a different tariff with the same supplier.

“People often feel that changing tariffs is too difficult, but we can sit down with householders and guide them through it. People we’ve helped in the past have cut their bills by £100 to £200 a year by changing, so it makes a huge difference.”

The events begin at Greenodd and Penny Bridge Village Hall on Tuesday 17 January, with a tea, cake and tariffs session from 2pm to 4pm.

The next events are tariff-check drop-ins at Ulverston Library on 18 and 20 January and at Grange-over-Sands Library on 8 and 9 February – 11am to 1pm at both venues.

The tariff tour comes to Broughton-in-Furness on 17 February, where there’ll be soup and refreshments on offer from 12pm to 2pm at the Victory Hall.

Nancy added: “There’s no need to book for any of the events, just turn up!”
