A summer fun fair is coming to Bowness to help raise funds for local charities and community good causes.

The Bowness-on-Windermere ‘Summer of Fun’ will see a family fun fair on the Glebe from Friday, 29 July, until Sunday, 14 August, operating from 12 noon until 9pm each day.

Entertainment over the weekends will also include face-painting, puppet shows and childrens’ races.

The fair will be setting up from 26 July.

The ‘Summer of Fun’ funfair is being staged by Levens-based Taylor’s Funfairs, with a percentage of the proceeds going to support the work of Windermere and Ambleside Lions.

The events are organised in conjunction with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), which provides the land for the fairs on the Glebe.

Every penny of the money that goes to the Lions is spent on Lions activities supporting the local community.

In the past 12 months the Lions has given donations to organisations including the Calvert Trust and Bendrigg Lodge and to appeals including £1,000 to the Cumbria Flood Appeal and smaller contributions to a number of local  good causes.

The Lions also do a great deal of work to help the elderly in the community, including purchasing and delivering logs for fuel in the winter, taking a group of elderly residents to Staveley Opera and, in conjunction with Low Wood Hotel, organise an older folks’ Christmas tea, including transport to the event.

A spokesman for SLDC said: “This really is a community event that supports community initiatives and the good work of the Lions and we are glad to be able to do our bit by providing the land at the Glebe for the fairs.’’
