Tour of Britain 2016 - Road Closures

Full road closures

To accommodate the finish of the race there will be full road closures in place in parts of South Lakeland at crucial times.

From 11pm on Sunday 4 September 2016 to 10pm on Monday 5 September 2016

Beast Banks and Greenside, Kendal – From its junction with Low Fellside and Allhallows to its junction with Kendal Fell Quarry.

Bankfield Road, Kendal – From its junction with Brigsteer Road to its junction with Greenside.

High Tenterfell, Kendal – From its junction with Greenside to its junction with Undercliff Road.

C5062 Kendal – From its junction with Greenside to its junction with Bankfield Road.

Mount Pleasant, Kendal – From its junction with Beast Banks, extending in a northerly direction for a distance of approximately 20 metres.

East View, Kendal – From its junction with the C5062 to its junction with Summerhill.

The entire lengths of the following:

Bank Street, Kendal

Queen Street, Kendal

Mount Street, Kendal

Belmont leading to High Fellside, Kendal

Alternative Routes:

For Brigsteer Road – via Lowther Street, Blackhall Road, Stramongate, New Road, Aynam Road, Nether Bridge, Kirkland and Gillinggate.

For Underbarrow Road – via Lowther Street, Blackhall Road, Sandes Avenue, Stricklandgate, Windermere Road, B5284 Crook Road and C5059 Mountjoy Brow.

For High Tenterfell – via Lowther Street, Blackhall Road, Sandes Avenue, Stricklandgate, Windermere Road and Queens Road.

Please note alternative routes will be made where possible for residents and businesses to park.

Kirkstone Road / The Struggle, Ambleside - from its junction with the A591 to its junction with the A592 Kirkstone Pass near the Kirkstone Inn.

A592 Kirkstone Pass – from the pass summit to its junction with the A591 at Cooks House Corner.

Between 12pm and 6pm on Monday 5 September 2016

C5062 Brigsteer Road, Kendal – from its junction with Bankfield Road to its junction with Underwood.

Between 2pm and 5pm on Monday 5 September 2016

The entire lengths of the following:

Market Place, Kendal

Branthwaite Brow, Kendal

Finkle Street, Kendal

Allhallows, Kendal

Stricklandgate, Kendal from its junction with Sandes Avenue to its junction with Library Road.

Highgate, Kendal – from its junction with Allhallows and Lowther Street, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately 50 metres.

Lowther Street, Kendal – From its junction with Allhallows and Highgate, extending in an easterly direction for a distance of approximately 20 metres.

Highgate and Strickland, Kendal – From its junction with Allhallows Lane and Lowther Street through to Stricklandgate and its junction with Library Road.

Alternative Route: via Sandes Avenue, Blackhall Road, Stramongate, New Road, Aynam Road, Nether Bridge, Kirkland and Highgate.

Between 1pm and 4pm on Monday 5 September 2016

A5074 Crag Brow, Bowness-on-Windermere from its junction with the A592 Rayrigg Road to its junction with Helme Road.

A5074 Kendal Road, Bowness-on-Windermere from its junction with the A592 Lake Road to its junction with Brantfell Road (both spurs).

Rolling road closures

Rolling road closures will operate for the cycle race. This means that roads will temporarily be closed for approximately 1 hour, before, during and after the race has gone through and will re-open as soon as possible when it is safe to do so.

Please note, it is anticipated that these roads will only be closed for short periods as the race progresses:

A591 Dunmail Raise – From the district boundary with Allerdale to its junction with Swan Lane, along the B5287 through Grasmere, back onto the A591 through Rydal, and into Ambleside on Lake Road.

A592 Rayrigg Road – From its junction with the A591, extending through Bowness-on-Windermere and onto the A592 Promenade, crossing the A5074.

A591 at Plumgarths Roundabout – from its junction with the B5284 Crook Road to its junction with the A5284 Windermere Road.

A5284 Windermere Road – From Plumgarths roundabout to its junction with Stricklandgate.

A6 Stricklandgate – From its junction with Burneside Road to its junction with Sandes Avenue.

The entire lengths of the following:

B5285 known as Longtail Hill

B5284 known as the Crook Road

No waiting at any time and no loading and unloading

Stricklandgate, Stricklandgate/ Highgate, Finkle Street, Market Place/ Branthwaite Brow, Allhallows Lane andBeast Banks/ Greenside, Kendal (both sides) – from the junction of Beast Banks with Allhallows to a point approximately 800 metres west of the junction of Greenside and Beast Banks at the entrance to Kendal Fell Quarry.

High Tenterfell, Kendal (both sides) – from its junction with Greenside to its junction with Undercliff Road.

Bankfield Road, Kendal (both sides) – from its junction with Greenside to its junction with Brigsteer Road.

C5062 Kendal (both sides) – from its junction with Bankfield Road to its junction with East View.

East View, Kendal (both sides) – from its junction with the C5062 to its junction with Captain French Lane.

C5062 Brigsteer Road, Kendal (both sides) – from its junction with Bankfield Road to its junction with Underwood.
