Two worthy South Lakeland causes are to benefit from donations raised by the Partners’ Networking Dinner hosted by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) Chairman Councillor Sylvia Emmott and Cumbria Chamber of Commerce.

Money raised at the event will be shared between catering students from Kendal College and seated excerise classes for the elderly organised by Age UK South Lakeland.

The donation of £500 made to Kendal College will contribute towards a trip to San Francisco for the catering pupils, who have raised over £25,000 for the once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Richard Axford, Deputy Head of Hospitality at the college, said: “Thanks goes to SLDC and Cumbria Chamber of Commerce for contributing these funds.

“The students have been working extremely hard fundraising, but donations like this are vital.”

Students will be experiencing a variety of activities, including culinary visits to colleges and restaurants, as well as exploring tourist attractions such as Alcatraz.

The £1,000 donated to the seated exercise classes will buy a wide range of equipment such as elastic bands, bean bags and a set of skittles.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Age UK South Lakeland, Peter Smith, said: “Age UK depends upon the donations of the public and organisations.

“This generous donation will go a long way to supporting our weekly exercise classes across the district.”

The annual Partners’ Networking Dinner, held at Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, on 11 March, was attended by 220 key figures from a range of sectors. This included representatives from business, commerce, education, legal, housing associations and financial organisations.

SLDC Chairman, Councillor Sylvia Emmott, said: “I am absolutely delighted to support both of these incredible causes.

“I am proud to support both and thank Cumbria Chamber of Commerce for their help.”
