Our Leader Councillor Giles Archibald has welcomed a new partnership to look after the authority’s buildings and assets across the district.

Councillor Archibald was speaking after officially opening the new South Lakeland office of Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) in Staveley.

The commercial property company has won a £2.6m contract to manage the maintenance and repairs of council assets, including its offices, cars parks, parks and open spaces, as well as guiding and advising the authority on the best way to manage those assets.

Councillor Archibald said: “Our property management partners are often going to be the face of the council in the community. The council’s assets belong to the taxpayers of South Lakeland so it is important that they are managed well.

“We are a very ambitious council and we are always interested to work together with our parishes, towns and communities to deliver on their priorities and working closely with our property management company can help us to achieve that.

“SLDC is very pleased to welcome Lambert Smith Hampton to Staveley and we hope that its own business will continue to develop and grow here.’’

The opening of the new offices brought together representatives from across Cumbria and Lancashire’s business community.

LSH Director Richard Platt, who heads the new Staveley office, said: “We are delighted to be here in Staveley.

“This is our 35th office to open in the UK and Ireland, but it is unquestionably the most scenic.

“We looked at the council’s own stated plans and it is clear that this is a council that has a clear vision, and that creates a platform for us to help to develop that vision. We are very much looking forward to a long-term relationship with SLDC.’’

LSH has opened its new office with eight staff and is aiming to create further jobs once the new office is established.
